The stored record label that is Island Def Jame will no longer exist after the resignation of CEO Barry Weiss, effective immediately. Universal Music Group released a press release stating that they’ll be reorganizing Def Jam Recordings, Island Records and Motown Records all as separate entities.
Def Jam, the label created by Russell Simmons, will now be operating as it’s own independent entity with longtime executive Steve Bartels. Island Recordings will also be functioning as a sole unit with the addition of its own marketing, publicity and A&R departments with David Massey as CEO.Last but not least Records will be relocating it’s base office to Los Angeles headed by Ethiopia Habtemariam, Motown’s former SVP.
