Donald Sterling has been banned for life from the NBA and fined $2.5 million after the disgraced Los Angeles Clippers owner was taped making racially charged comments.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced his decision on Tuesday.
Silver also said he will do everything he can to force a sale of the team.
The action against Sterling comes after the emergence of an audio recording on which the businessman is heard making offensive remarks about race to his mistress V. Stiviano.
The tape led to condemnation from President Obama, Oprah, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, and others calling for a boycott and action by the NBA.
On Tuesday, the Clippers will play their first home game since the scandal broke.
